Important Information For You:

Credit Reports

The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act signed into law on December 1, 2003 gives you the right to check your credit report annually... for free! Checking your credit report is a good way to make sure that your credit is accurate. A low credit score puts you at risk of lower credit limits, higher rates on your existing credit and denial of future credit requests. Make sure all the accounts on your report are yours. Also check to see if there are any reports of late payments that you disagree with. Finally, look for information about credit cards you have forgotten about and would like to cancel.

Consumers can also purchase an analysis of their credit scores and credit reports for $12.95 online at www.myfico.com or from www.equifax.com   Equifax will also provide a report on how lenders interpret them.  The scores range from 300 to 850, anyone with a 620 or above can typically secure a loan with a decent interest rate, providing that income and employment history are favorable.  Reports will help you determine how to best raise your score.

Protection Against Lemons

Credit Unions can now protect their members  and themselves from lemons.  CUNA has a long-term relationship Carfax, a vehicle history service, to provide a database of vehicle problems such as manufacturer buybacks, salvages, odometer rollbacks, and flood damage.  To receive a report go to "Lemon Check".

Inactive Accounts:

These are accounts that have had no activity for 36 months or more. Effective 10/1/00, fees will be charged to all non-interest bearing accounts (balances of less than $100) that have not been used for 3 or more years and the member does not use other Credit Union services. We hope this will renew interest in the products and services that we offer. It is expensive to maintain these accounts, and in trying to serve the best interest of all our members, it was necessary to write a policy regarding these accounts. Please call us if you have any questions about this new policy.
